Our Babymoon | Piacenza's on Wabikon, Laona, WI
Capturing life’s moments...ours and yours.
That has been our motto for the longest time. Msxphotos started out as a desire for me to capture memories of our life and adventures together. It comes as no surprise that our love for photography came from traveling. We love capturing our own photos. Yes, that means there’s quite a lot of running back and forth, outtakes and hilarious moments. Still, we wouldn’t change it for the world.
In our heydays, we did a lot of traveling together but for the past couple of years, we've only taken the occasional trip with family. I hadn’t realize that it’s been a very long time since we’ve gone on an actual trip just the two of us...so when Chee La brought up that we should have a babymoon, I was surprised. First of all, I was astonish that he even knew what a babymoon was and second, how important it was to him. What I didn’t know was how much I needed this trip. That’s the thing about Chee La though. He always knows what I need before I do.
He promised a long weekend with no work and just relaxing out on the lake. In the words of Chee La, “there are times when you need to do nothing.” We slept, we cooked, did a bit of driving around, hiking, fishing — and took a whole lot of photos! I’m forever thankful to have a partner that enjoys capturing these moments as much as I do. It felt like we stuffed 6 months of maternity photos into one weekend but, I’m so happy that we were able to capture this precious time. What a way to celebrate the official start to the third trimester of our pregnancy.
We stayed at the coziest little cabin on Lake Wabikon. I have linked their Airbnb listing down below! Susan, our hostess, was such a sweetheart and made sure we had everything we needed. It was so interesting to learn from Susan that the cabin has been in their family for a long time. Back in the day, this was one of two tiny little fishing huts with no running water! What a change it has gone through. We fell in love with the gorgeous lake view from our window and even fed a family of swans on our last morning. It definitely felt magical and we wholeheartedly recommend staying there if you ever need a getaway!
Where there is a lake, there will be a beautiful sunrise. We knew we wanted to get sunrise photos so we woke up super early before light could fill the mirror-like lake. It was a balmy 30ish degrees but we made it work between the two of us with lots of running around and my phone. Not even kidding, there was frost on the pier. Thankfully the weather warmed up each afternoon to be in the 40s so we were able to take hikes. It was such a great way to disconnect from everything and reconnect with each other. We feel so recharged and ready to finish out the year strong before our sweet little baby girl makes her appearance this January. Also, I realize on this trip that I really need a new jacket. My current one cannot contain this belly already...and I still have 3 more months to go.
